The Workhouse Gallery opened in November 2008 with support from the Bodfach Trust and a tremendous amount of hard work from volunteers to transform the former Mens Day Room into a bright and airy gallery space that can accomodate our main exhibition programme downstairs and houses a permanent collection of works for sale by local artists and crafts people upstairs.
The Main gallery offers a rolling programme of exhibitions by both local and international artists. Artists interested in exhibiting in this space need to apply in the first instance with a written proposal and outline for their exhibition to the Gallery Manager Jason Doignie.
The Workhouse Gallery, The Workhouse, Y Dolydd, Llanfyllin, Powys, SY22 5LD.
During exhibitions the gallery is normally open to the public From 10:00am - 4:00pm
Thursdays - Saturdays unless otherwise stated.
A recent addition to the gallery is the educational workshop space where we plan to offer a variety of workshops in different techniques from ceramics and textiles to art created from recycled objects.
We are tremendously grateful to Annie Horner for her generous donation of a Kiln and ceramics workshop equipment that has enabled us to equip this space.

An exhibition of glass art by the group of five artists that make up Marcher Glass.
The exhibition showed a variety of glass pieces highlighting the very different techniques used by these artists to create work ranging from domestic lighting and kitchenware to large scale wall hangings and jewellery.
Exhibiting artists were:
Phillipa Hughes, Anne Collins, Rachael Montgomery, Johann Brussel and Wolfe Brussel.
We gave 100 local young people aged between 7-18, a blank canvas to create a new piece of work for this exhibition, which was a great opportunity to see a unique collection of work from truly inspirational minds, and who knows maybe the chance of finding The Next Big Thing.
All the canvases were for sale for a nominal donation of £5. All monies raised will go to towards a summer program of activities and events for children and young people.

Thank you to Llanfyllin Primary School, Llanfechain Primary school, Llanfyllin High school and Arts Connection Cyswllt Celf for their assistance and to all the young people who have taken part.

Art club workshops co-ordinated by Arts Connection Cyswllt Celf took place at The Workhouse Gallery during half term as part of our community educational programme funded by Powys County Council Community Support Enablement Fund.
The silk painting workshop led by artist Sally Duckers was a tremendous success with 19 young people busily creating their own designs on silk. Parents also got involved in learning the techniques and sharing in the fun.
Drama and movement workshop leader, Helen Young, worked with six young people to devise a short performance piece based around the idea of visiting a gallery.

If you would like to get involved in The Workhouse Gallery either by offering your help through general staffing during exhibition times, assisting in the curating and mounting of exhibitions, marketing or through educational activities then please get in touch with Jason Doignie - Gallery Manager. We welcome all offers of support and help to maintain public opening times and the running of the gallery.
