Workhouse Venue

After months of hard work, The Workhouse Venue opened its doors to the public in September 2008. 

The Workhouse Venue is an intimate multipurpose performance space with licensed bar.

Since opening its doors the venue has hosted a regular programme of music, theatre and film events with the aim of bringing top quality performers, touring theatre companies and specialist cinema screenings to our local community at affordable prices and also offering local musicians and bands a space to perform.

 

 

These events have been very popular and we hope to continue with them in the future but sadly due to the structural changes in staffing and management at the Workhouse Project it has not been possible to continue the events programme on such a regular basis.

We would like to thank all the volunteers who have worked so hard to maintain fund raising events for the project since the loss of our staff in July and also to thank the many people who have continued to support us in coming along to events.

We are keen to continue in our provision of a cultural and educational events programme as this is an integral part of the project and so we are pleased to be offering the venue space to KinoKulture and their monthly KinoCafe event whilst the new education and cinema space is undergoing refurbishment.

The Workhouse Cinema Season

Through support from Film Agency Wales The Workhouse Cinema Season was able to offer a monthly programme of specialist film screening events between April and June 2009.

Theatre At The Workhouse

With support from Arts Council Wales Noson Allan and Powys County Council we have been able to bring some amazing touring theatre companies to our local community and hope to re instate this programme when possible.

Music Nights At The Workhouse

The Workhouse venue hosted a regular monthly programme of bands and musicians and we have been pleased to be able to continue our support of local DJ's through our fundraising events.

Y Sesiwn Fawr - The Big Session

This was our regular monthly open session for traditional music and dance featuring traditional music from Wales, Brittany, Ireland and Scotland.
