the performance features the Allegri String Quartet plus Meifod-based harpist Ieuan Jones.

To celebrate the release of their new EP "Best Before" we are pleased to welcome Acid Jam to the Workhouse Venue for the first event after this year's Workhouse Festival and our summer break.
Acid jam play an eclectic mix of funked up punk, dance, rock and indie. A cross between The Clash and The Stone Roses the Acid Jam sound is described as "simply too sweet to eat"
With Steve Thomas as the main front man, the theatre of the stage is exagerated to incendiary levels, ensuring a performance enthralling and captivating. With steady rhythms and catchy licks, we can guarantee you will be humming a few tunes for days to come.

The idea of the West-Eastern Divan was conceived in 1999 in the minds of two artists and intellectuals - the Israeli, Daniel Barenboim, and the Palestinian, the late Edward Said. They decided to create a workshop for young musicians from Israel and various countries of the Middle East with the aim of combining musical study and development with the sharing of knowledge and comprehension between people from cultures that traditionally have been rivals.
Knowledge Is The Beginning is the award winning film by Paul Smaczny following The remarkable West-Eastern Divan Orchestra over a period of five years.

"Martin Harley is a singer/songwriter whose music draws on influences from old time blues and folk to world music to make a sound that feels so familiar you think you've grown up with it."
Martin's first visit to The Workhouse was back in spring as part of his solo tour when he wowed the audience with his easy rapport, tales of being on the road and virtuoso slide guitar skills. This time he returns with his band and we are pleased to welcome him back for a night that promises "tight harmonies and snaking rhythms on the world's smallest drum kit from Peter Swatton with double bass and balalaika bass, sometimes bowed, sometimes beaten by Graeme Ross. An obvious love of music and an almost telepathic level of communication between this unusual three-piece make for a dynamic live performance."
