Garden of Reflection
In 2008 We were awarded an
It's Your Community Award for £1000 and £750 from Powys Environmental Partnership to help create a community garden within one of the Workhouse Courtyards. Over the last few months this derelict space has become the focus of a huge effort to turn it into a memorial garden to remember and respect all those that lived in the Llanfyllin Union Workhouse.

Over the weekend 14th & 15th March around 20 volunteers (including a number of school chldren) made a vast impression on the garden. Hundreds of barrow loads of hard core and aggregate were used to complete the pathways, a small patio area was started, the central walled area was filled with soil and a Weeping Cherry Tree planted in the centre.
Well done to all those who helped. It was a good weekend and enjoyed by everyone. The trees and some shrubs and fruit bushes were donated by Dingle Nursery and many plants were donated by local people.
Work continued on a weekly basis with our 'Gardening Volunteer Tuesdays' and with additional input from participants of the Permaculure Design courses the garden is now a flourishing habitat for wildlife with a variety of plants, trees, shrubs and salad vegetables growing and a beautiful seating area to relax in. There is still groundwork to do with paths needing to be laid and more planting and tidying up to be done and so we will be holding another volunteers weekend on 20th & 21st June. We welcome any offers of help and look forward to seeing you there.
