Workhouse in 2010

There is a lot planned for the coming year at the Workhouse, after all sorts of trials and tribulations in 2009, we have been busy over the winter putting plans in place for the projects next chapter. There is a new course programme planned for the coming year and Kinokulture will be launching their educational cinema screenings in the venue this February, with plans to move into a dedicated cinema space later in the year. Scaffolding has been erected and works are soon to start on the front wing of the building which will provide bunkhouse style accommodation for course participants.

It is looking like the Workhouse festival will be having a rest year, although there are already plans for a return in 2011, building on the lessons of the past to put together a fantastic event that we hope will be worthy of this fantastic area and community. There will however be a series of smaller events staged here this year, including a benefit for the victims of the Haiti earthquake, a Green crafts and local produce Fayre and Planning is under way for Llanfyllin's Ffilmic Film festival to expand its activities at the Workhouse.

After the success of the Green Fayre and our TV coverage on Changing Lives - Going Green, we are very keen to develop our green credentials and become even more active in promoting sustainability initiatives.

The first of these is an upcoming 20 week (3hrs on a thursday) fully funded organic gardening course that we are organising with Coleg Harelch and a full 2 week (72hr) Permaculture Design Course, which will be running in the second half of May, organised by project partners Sector39.  The Workhouse Gallery has its first exhibition of the year coming up, and they have been working with local pupils to put together an Artists of the Future exhibition. Watch this space for details, more things are being planned at the moment!

We are even working with Presentable TV to develop a programme idea for Channel 4 TV, so you might be seeing the Workhouse on UK National TV in the future.
